DocAssemble Development

Free Docassemble Audit

A free Docassemble audit is an expert review of your live or planned Docassemble app. We check interview logic and YAML quality, security and hosting, performance, accessibility, integrations, maintainability and upgrade readiness. You receive a written report of prioritised findings and a call to walk through it, with no obligation to hire us.

What we review

AreaWhat we look at
Interview logic & YAML qualityBlock structure, mandatory/code block flow, variable naming, repeated code, question order, branching and edge cases, and how well the interview is split into reusable packages
Document templatesDOCX/PDF template logic, Jinja2 usage, field mapping, formatting that breaks on long answers, and multi-document packages
PerformanceSlow screens, heavy code blocks, background tasks, server sizing and caching
Security & hostingHTTPS and server configuration, user roles and permissions, debug or Playground exposure on production, secrets handling, backups and data retention, hosting setup (AWS, Azure, on-premise, Docker)
UX & accessibilityPlain-language questions, mobile layout, progress and navigation, error messages, and accessibility basics such as labels, contrast and keyboard use
IntegrationsAPIs and webhooks to CRMs, case management (e.g. Clio, LegalServer), e-signature and payments: error handling, retries and data mapping
MaintainabilityVersion control, package structure, documentation, test coverage (e.g. ALKiln or other automated tests), and how easily your team can change templates
Upgrade readinessCurrent Docassemble version, how far behind it is, deprecated features, custom code that may break on upgrade, and a safe upgrade path

Planning a new app instead? We review your forms, templates and workflow and tell you what to automate first, how to structure it and which hosting fits.

What you receive

  • A written audit report of findings ranked by impact and effort, with specific fixes
  • A walkthrough call to explain the findings and answer questions
  • A suggested action plan: what to fix now, what can wait, and what your team can do in-house
  • No obligation. Use the report with your own developers or with us.

Who it's for

  • Law firms running Docassemble for intake, engagement letters, estate planning or pleadings
  • Legal aid and nonprofit organisations with self-help tools or eligibility screening built on Docassemble or the Assembly Line
  • Courts and justice programmes offering guided court forms to self-represented litigants
  • Legal-tech teams and startups whose product runs on Docassemble, or who are deciding whether to build on it
  • Teams that inherited a Docassemble server from a departed developer or contractor and aren't sure what's running

How it works

  1. Tell us about your app. Fill in the short form below with your Docassemble URL or repository (optional) and your main problem.
  2. We review it. We review the live interviews and, if you give us access, the code and server configuration
  3. Get your report and call. You receive the written findings and we walk you through them, then you decide what to do next.

Request your free audit

Please don't include passwords in the form. We'll arrange code or server access separately after our first reply.

Frequently asked questions

1. Is the Docassemble audit really free?

Yes. There is no charge for the audit, the written report or the walkthrough call, and no obligation to hire us afterwards.

2. Do you need access to our server or code?

No. We can audit the live interviews from a URL. If you share read-only repository or server access, we can also review YAML, templates, security settings and upgrade readiness in more depth.

3. We haven't built anything yet. Can we still request an audit?

Yes. For planned projects we review your forms, templates and workflow and recommend what to automate first, how to structure the interviews and which hosting setup fits.

4. Do you only audit apps you built?

No. We review Docassemble apps built in-house, by contractors or by other agencies, including apps based on Suffolk LIT Lab's Assembly Line.

5. What happens after the audit?

You keep the report. Your own team can fix the issues, or you can ask us for a quote to fix some or all of them. We also offer ongoing maintenance, hosting and support.
